Seguin Moreau : The SEGUIN MOREAU cooperage was the result of the combining of two cooperages: SEGUIN, founded in 1870, and MOREAU, founded in 1838. Initially a major shareholder, the REMY MARTIN Cognac company became its sole proprietor in 1972. At that time, SEGUIN MOREAU manufactured barrels for holding spirits. These barrels last for several decades.

At the beginning of the 1980s, cellars are fully equipped and Oenology had started to emerge. SEGUIN MOREAU changes direction and converts the contents of its wood yard into sessile oak with the aim of conquering the vineyards throughout the world. SEGUIN MOREAU now belongs to a worldwide group. The cooperage is represented on the 5 continents by a network of agents and subsidiaries. 80% of its turnover is made abroad in 35 countries.

SEGUIN MOREAU’s reputation rests on almost two centuries of experience: supported by 30 years of R&D programs, the cooperage has invented the bousinage (Oenological toasting) and the U-STAVETM process. It is now enhancing AQUAFLEX®, a process that softens tannins, and ICÔNE, a new process that enables to identify the oenological potential of the oak.

Saury : Saury is a family-run cooperage in south-west France and has been producing wine barrels since 1873. With output of some 50,000 barrels a year, Saury is the fifth-largest company on international markets and is present in some thirty or so countries, with 4 sales subsidiaries to date in key territories such as Spain, Italy, North America and South Africa..

Saury seeks to share its values, rather than imposing them on others, and is respectful of the particular culture of each winemaker. This is why each Saury barrel is made according to the specifications of the clients: wood grain, species, length of seasoning time, barrel and bung-hole size, heating power... These made-to-measure barrels are then personalised to the producer’s requirements: logo, name and coat of arms are faithfully transcribed onto the barrel to keep the personality of the winegrower.

By increasing its international presence, the Saury cooperage aims to be as close as possible to winemakers and establish close relations of trust. Today, the Group exports 75% of its barrels to a number of countries, including Spain, North America, Italy, Australia, New Zealand, Austria, Chile, Argentina, Israel, etc.

Canton : Situated in central Kentucky, Canton Cooperage is in the heart of the U.S. white oak forests. The area is also fortunate to have a labor force highly skilled in the cooperage trade. Canton Cooperage took advantage of these resources and began producing bourbon barrels in 1983. Canton Wood Products purchased the business in 1987 and began the transition to high quality wine barrels. A new stave mill was built to meet the growing need for air-dried staves and heading.

By 1994, the cooperage was producing only premium American oak wine barrels. Finally, in 1998, Canton Cooperage became a member of the Chene & Cie Group, which operates cooperages and stave mills in the U.S. and France, including Tonnellerie Taransaud in Cognac.
